How to Order Wallcovering Samples (and What to Check When They Arrive)

A wallcovering that looks perfect on a screen can look quite different on a hotel corridor wall under cool LED light. That’s why experienced designers, purchasing agents, and facility managers don’t approve a pattern until they’ve held a physical sample in the actual space.

This guide covers how to order wallcovering samples from Everything Hospitality, what to evaluate when they arrive, and how to move from an approved sample to a project quote.

Why Samples Matter on Commercial Projects

Monitors, phone screens, and printed brochures all shift color. Texture is even harder to judge on a screen: a subtle linen emboss or a deep grasscloth-look texture can read very differently in person. For hotels, healthcare facilities, offices, and universities, a wrong call can mean reordering, repeating installation labor, and missing an opening date.

Samples let the whole team (owner, designer, brand reviewer, and contractor) review the same physical piece before money is committed.

Step-by-Step: How to Order Wallcovering Samples

Step 1: Browse the wallcovering collections

Start on the commercial wallcovering page. Look through the collections and shortlist patterns that fit your space: quieter textures for guestroom field walls, more forgiving mottled patterns for high-traffic corridors, and bolder looks for lobbies or feature walls.

You can also open the pattern pages and compare hotel wallcovering side by side. These are 54-inch wide contract wallcovering patterns, Class A fire rated, from a direct source.

Step 2: Choose your colorways

Click Request Samples (or Choose Your Samples) and select the colorways you want to see. A few tips:

  • Order neighboring colorways. If you like a warm gray, also order the shades on either side. Under site lighting, the one next to it is often the better match.
  • Sample every pattern in a pairing. If you’re planning a field wall plus an accent wall, order both so you can see them side by side.
  • Keep the list focused. A tight shortlist leads to faster decisions than a large stack of samples.

Step 3: Submit your request

Complete your sample request. Samples are shipped within 48 hours, so your team can usually review them during the same design cycle.

What to Check When Your Samples Arrive

Color under site lighting

Take samples to the actual space, or one with matching light, and look at them:

  • Under the fixtures that will be installed (warm sconces in guestrooms, cooler LEDs in corridors).
  • In daylight near windows, and again at night.
  • Next to carpet, case goods, paint, and trim samples.

Tape samples vertically at eye level. Wallcovering seen flat on a desk looks different from wallcovering on a wall.

Texture and pattern scale

Run your hand across the surface and look at it from several angles. Ask:

  • Will the texture hide minor scuffs and wall imperfections?
  • How will the pattern scale read across a full wall or a long corridor?
  • Will the repeat or texture help hide seams in a 54-inch roll installation?

Backing and construction

Turn the sample over. The backing affects installation, adhesion, and how the wallcovering performs over time. Have your installer or contractor look at it, especially if the substrate is unusual or the space is high-moisture. Confirm that the product meets your spec for durability (many hotel corridors and guestrooms call for Type II vinyl) and Class A fire rating. Every Everything Hospitality wallcovering is Class A.

Osnaburg backing is fabric-backed vinyl. That is the backing on patterns such as Zaya, Feline, Burmese, and Serpent. Ascend Stripe and Kinetic use a non-woven backing. They are not fabric-backed. Both backings are 54-inch wide commercial wall covering.

For timing after the sample is approved, see commercial vinyl wallcovering lead times. For the fire-rating checklist, see Class A fire rated wallcovering.

Get sign-off

Write the pattern name and colorway on the back of each approved sample and keep it with the project file. The approved sample is your reference when product arrives on site.

For a complete spec checklist, see how to specify commercial wallcovering for hotels.

Next Step: Request a Project Quote

Once a pattern is approved, go to Get a Project Quote on the wallcovering page. The more detail you include, the more accurate your pricing will be:

  • Project type (hotel, healthcare, corporate, education, and so on)
  • Approximate yardage needed
  • The patterns and colorways you approved
  • Your timeline
  • Any notes about phasing, attic stock, or delivery

Project quotes go out within 48 hours. The minimum order is one roll (about 30 yards). In-stock patterns are available now, and out-of-stock patterns have a lead time of 4–5 weeks.

How fast do wallcovering samples ship? Samples are shipped within 48 hours.

How many colorways should I order? Order your top choice plus the colorways on either side of it, and every pattern in a planned pairing. That’s usually enough to make a confident decision.

What’s the best way to judge color? View samples upright, at eye level, under the lighting that will be installed in the space, and next to the other finishes.

How quickly will I get a quote after approving a sample? Project quotes go out within 48 hours of your request.
